Fixing Cracks Without Expensive Professional Help

Cracks in concrete are often brought on by temperature changes, road debris, or aging. Some cracks may also be caused by heavy gear and animal impact. The process for fixing a cracked concrete is basically the same as for repairing concrete on or above floor level. You must first prepare the area to be repaired. Once the place is cleaned and any debris removed, apply a coating of crack repair cement.

If your concrete driveway, walkway or other concrete surface cracks badly, they might well be repaired. To do it, you need to prepare the surface properly. For minor cracks, here is how to fill concrete fractures using a crack filler or concrete patch:

The easiest and least expensive way of doing concrete crack repair would be to use a patching compound. Concrete patching compounds are commercially available and can be purchased at most home improvement stores and big chain retailers. These compounds are generally water-based and will fill small cracks without repainting, cracking or destroying the surrounding region. Most products are simple to use with a sponge and a little bit of water. If you want, you can always mix some adhesive resin with all the concrete patching compound, however, that strategy usually adds a little work to the project.

Another option for smaller cracks is to utilize a fracture reducer. These decrease cracks by injecting concrete to the cracks to make them less noticeable. This can be effective on bigger cracks or whole concrete sections and is useful for older buildings in which the concrete is in danger of cracking due to age. For surfaces similar to this, it is best to replace sub-grade concrete prior to attempting to tackle the work with a crack reducer.

Rather than pouring the concrete back in the hole, then use a trowel to smooth the face of these holes till you get a coarse dust such as material. Next, use the concrete dust mixture all the way round the edges of the damaged region, smoothing it out as you go. Finally, apply one more layer of this compactable material, smoothing out any bubbles that may form while the mix sets. Now you have an instant concrete crack repair job which costs less, takes less time and effort, and is even easier to do yourself when you're tired from a day at work or school.
