How can a novice progress at driving?

It's pretty daunting thinking ahead to those first few driving lessons but there's really nothing to worry about. Here are some methods for being prepared and what to expect…
1. Read through to the Highway Code!

When you yourself have time, ahead of the lesson have an instant read of The Highway Code (the guide to the principles of the road made for everyone from drivers to pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists). You will have a head start and have the ability to impress the instructor together with your knowledge
2. Arrive well rested and alert

Try to have a lot of sleep the night before, and ensure you haven't had any alcohol!
3. Bring your provisional driving license

It may seem obvious, but make sure you have applied for your provisional license well prior to your first lesson, as it can take a while to arrive. See it along to your lesson which means that your instructor can easily see that you're legally allowed on the roads!
4. Get settled in comfortably

Adjust your seat properly whenever you get into the car – you need to make sure you can reach the pedals properly! You might need to maneuver it further forward than the instructor's normal setting.

5. Wear suitable shoes

Try and wear comfortable shoes without an excessive amount of a heel or thick sole, to help you move the pedals easily with the ball of your foot.
6. Wear comfy clothes

When you're driving, you'll need to have the ability to stretch your legs and move your arms freely, so try and wear an outfit which allows you to get this done!

7. Relax and get some good practice

At first it looks like a lot of information to defend myself against board at once, but as you gain experience it will all start to feel natural. It's easy to feel overwhelmed, so make sure you get a few hours of practice in through your own time to help you proceed through things at your personal pace – it's a good way to construct confidence and get the absolute most from your next lesson.

8. Remember you're in safe hands

Don't be nervous about using the ignition and switching on the engine- you won't have the ability to go anywhere if the clutch is in neutral! Once you do start moving, remember that your instructor has full control over the vehicle so will have the ability to interfere if anything goes wrong.
